It is based on the Devi Mahatmyam, also called the Durga Saptashati, and its 700 verses are offered into the fire. Even in its one-day form, it is a substantial rite. The homam is entrusted to a South Indian pandit of your family's tradition, who speaks your names and gotra in the sankalp. The sankalp is the formal dedication of the homam, naming those for whom it is offered.

Why devotees book it

A prayer for the protection of the family and of everyone named in the sankalp

A prayer for victory over difficulties that have weighed on the household for a long time

A traditional prayer for the removal of obstacles before a new venture or an important family step

Devotion to the Devi as Chandi, offered in Navaratri, on a Friday or on Amavasya

When to book

Navaratri, the nine nights of the Devi, is the traditional season for a Chandi Homam.
