It summarises the Bhagavata Purana and is addressed to Guruvayurappan, a form of Krishna. By tradition, the poet composed it while seeking relief from illness. Its parayanam, a devotional recitation, is offered as a prayer for health, alongside medical care, and out of devotion. Your South Indian pandit recites it in the manner of your family's tradition, with your names in the sankalp.

Why devotees book it

A prayer for a family member who is unwell, offered alongside medical care

Devotion to Krishna as Guruvayurappan, offered on Ekadasi or a Thursday

Peace of mind for the household when worries weigh on it, offered in faith

Keeping a family vow to have the Narayaneeyam recited for someone dear

When to book

Devotees often choose Ekadasi, the eleventh lunar day, or a Thursday for the Narayaneeyam.
