Ayushya Homam on Your Birth Star: an Ayushya homam fire with a kalasam and a new silk cloth

Ayushya Homam includes a sankalp for the named person, preliminary worship, prayers for life and wellbeing, and offerings into the sacred fire. A priest follows the family's ritual tradition. For participants, the most useful preparation is accurate family information, an understood programme and a comfortable arrangement for the person being honoured.

What happens during Ayushya Homam?

The Ayushya section of Homa Sangraha includes preliminary worship, sankalp, kalasha worship, preparation of the fire, longevity prayers and closing rites. Birth-star-related offerings also appear in its procedure. The priest determines the full sequence for the family's practice.

Understanding the sankalp

This is the formal statement identifying the person and purpose of the ceremony. Parents may be arranging it for a child, or adult children may be honouring an elder. Make it clear who is the principal person and who else is to be named.

Following the main worship

The priest leads the chanting and offerings. Family participation depends on the setting: an attending family may be guided through actions, while an on-behalf-of booking is carried out at another venue. Neither should be inferred from the name “Ayushya Homam” alone.

Recognising the close

Closing worship completes the ritual programme. An attending family can ask how blessings and any permitted sharing of offerings will be handled. A short video of one stage is not a complete explanation of the entire ceremony.

Which items are used?

The DFW Hindu Temple Society's Ayushya Homam list includes ghee, rice, flowers, a kalash and ingredients for offerings. It is an example of a temple's material requirements, not a universal list to reproduce with the same quantities.

For a ceremony arranged locally, the priest should clarify who supplies what. For a service performed on your behalf, check whether any family-supplied items are expected before purchasing or sending them. A material used in worship and a parcel promised to the customer are different things; the existence of offerings does not establish prasad delivery.

What information should you prepare?

  • The full name of the birthday person or other principal beneficiary.
  • Gotra, if known, and the birth star if reliably recorded.
  • The names of other family members to be included within the service limit.
  • The family tradition, preferred language and reason for the observance.
  • The intended birthday or milestone, with enough time to settle the ritual date.

If relatives disagree about the birth star, resolve that before treating a date as final. Do not guess from a Western sun sign: a sun-sign label and janma nakshatra are different pieces of information. Where calculation is needed, ask what birth details the priest requires.

How do you plan around a child or elder?

For a young child

Arrange feeding, rest and a quiet space away from heat and smoke. Ask which portions require the child's presence before planning photographs or a large gathering. A distressed child does not need to remain beside the fire to demonstrate the family's devotion.

For an older relative

Think about seating, mobility, heat, medication schedules and travel. Let the relative's comfort shape an in-person celebration. A health concern should be discussed with the treating clinician; religious participation should accompany appropriate care.

Families can still express love and respect when worship is performed on someone's behalf. If relatives live in different cities, sharing the intention and a short family message may be more useful than insisting everyone travel.

What do Divine Hindu's two options include?

The South Indian birth-star service allows up to four names and includes photos or video on WhatsApp. Navagraha Archana and Annadanam are optional. The pandit is matched to your stated language and family tradition.

The Thirukkadaiyur Ayush Homam allows up to four names, with a receipt or confirmation on WhatsApp. It does not promise a private video; photos depend on temple permission. Mrityunjaya Homam is optional, and remote eligibility is confirmed before processing.

No prasad shipping is included in either option. The Thirukkadaiyur service does not include the in-person 60th- or 80th-year ceremonies.
