Devi MaaMandir Seva

What This Remedy Does

Duration: As per temple schedule

At the Banashankari Temple in Cholachagudda, near Badami, this Kumkumarchana honours Devi Banashankari, worshipped as Shakambari, with kumkum at each of her names. It is booked online in your name and performed by the temple's priests for up to four names. A temple receipt or a WhatsApp confirmation follows the seva.

What is Kumkumarchana?

In a Kumkumarchana the priest chants the Devi's names and offers kumkum, or vermilion, at every one of them. The chant is usually the ashtottara of 108 names, though the sahasranama of a thousand names is also used. Devi temples commonly keep it as a seva for the welfare of the family. At Cholachagudda it is made to Banashankari, also called Shakambari, with your name and gotra spoken in the sankalp.

Why devotees book it

  • Honouring Devi Banashankari as the family deity, the kuladevata, from wherever the family now lives
  • A prayer for the well-being and harmony of the whole household
  • Thanksgiving to Shakambari, remembered in tradition for feeding people through a famine
  • A prayer for marriage, or for a contented married life
  • Protection for the family, asked of the Devi in faith

When to book

Kumkumarchana is customarily offered on Tuesdays and Fridays, on full-moon days and during Navaratri. At Cholachagudda, January brings the Banashankari fair, which draws large crowds. Whatever day you prefer, our team confirms the date with you on WhatsApp after you book.

About Banashankari Temple

The Banashankari Temple stands at Cholachagudda, near Badami, in Bagalkot district of Karnataka. It is dedicated to Devi Banashankari, who is also worshipped as Shakambari. Tradition remembers Shakambari as the form of the Devi who fed people with vegetables and greens during a famine. Her fair in January draws large crowds. This is a different shrine from the Banashankari Amma temple in Bengaluru. Families who honour her as the mother who nourishes find kumkum at her names a fitting offering.
