What This Remedy Does

Duration: As per temple schedule

Kurmanatha Archana at Srikurmam Temple, near Srikakulam, is an archana of Vishnu in his Kurma form, the tortoise avatar. The temple's priests chant his names with flowers or kumkum, and up to four names with your gotra go into the sankalp. The temple receipt or a confirmation on WhatsApp follows the archana.

What is Kurmanatha Archana?

An archana is the chanting of a deity's names, usually the 108 names known as the ashtottara. At each name the priest offers flowers or kumkum, the sacred vermilion powder. It is the most common seva in South Indian temples. At Srikurmam the names are offered to Vishnu as Kurma, the tortoise avatar, at one of the rare temples devoted to this form. The priest speaks your name, gotra and birth star, or nakshatra, in the sankalp, so the archana is offered on your behalf.

Why devotees book it

  • Devotion to Vishnu in his rare Kurma form, and thanksgiving for blessings received
  • A prayer before an exam, a journey, an interview or a new venture, offered in faith
  • A birthday archana by birth star, or one for a wedding anniversary
  • Peace and well-being for the family, and a prayer for protection along life's way

When to book

Saturdays and Ekadasi, the eleventh lunar day, are favoured days for this archana at Srikurmam. A birthday by birth star and the temple's own festival days are other fitting occasions. The date for your archana is then confirmed on WhatsApp.
