Moolavar Abhishekam — Swaminathaswamy Temple, Swamimalai
What This Remedy Does
Near Kumbakonam, at Swaminathaswamy Temple in Swamimalai, Moolavar Abhishekam bathes the moolavar, the main fixed image of Murugan. The priests then decorate it and offer archana and aarti; the temple receipt or a WhatsApp confirmation comes to you afterwards. As many as four people, your gotra and any birth stars you share are named in their sankalp.
What is Moolavar Abhishekam?
The moolavar is the main, fixed image of the deity in the shrine. It is distinct from the utsavar, the festival image carried in processions. In a Moolavar Abhishekam the temple's priests bathe this main image with the materials the temple prescribes. They then decorate it and offer an archana and aarti, with the devotee's name spoken in the sankalp. At Swamimalai the moolavar is Murugan, called Swaminatha here.
Why devotees book it
- A prayer for learning and wisdom where, by tradition, Murugan explained the meaning of Om
- Blessings for work, a new role or a career step, offered in faith
- Keeping a vow made to Murugan, or giving thanks once it is fulfilled
- Blessings for the family's well-being, or on a birthday by birth star
When to book
Tuesday, kept for Murugan each week, suits a moolavar abhishekam, as does your own birth star. The temple's festivals are special occasions too; their dates follow the temple calendar. You agree the date with our team on WhatsApp once the booking is made.
