What is Someswara Abhishekam?
Someswara Abhishekam is a sacred bath for Shiva as Someswara, given while the priests chant mantras. Following the temple's own practice, they pour materials such as water, milk, curd, honey and ghee one by one. Tender coconut water and sandal paste are also among the traditional offerings. Once the bathing is complete, the deity is dressed and decorated in alankaram, and the seva ends with archana and aarti. In the sankalp the priest names you and your gotra, so the offering is made on your behalf.
