What This Remedy Does

Duration: Confirmed with you before the puja

The Annual Shraddha is the yearly rite for a departed parent or ancestor, held on the tithi, or lunar day, of their passing. A qualified South Indian pandit of your family's tradition performs it for you, in the regional vidhi, or procedure, not the Gaya vidhi. Your sankalp names the departed and up to four family members, with the gotra, and photos or video reach you on WhatsApp.

What is an Annual Shraddha?

A shraddha honours a departed parent or ancestor once a year, on the tithi on which they passed away. In the South Indian tradition it brings together a homam, or fire offering, pinda offerings to the ancestors and the feeding of Brahmins. The ancestors' names and gotra are spoken in the sankalp, the formal statement of the rite's purpose. It is an act of remembrance and of duty. For this booking, a qualified pandit performs it in the South Indian regional vidhi rather than the Gaya vidhi. The feeding of Brahmins, Brahmin bhojan, can be added to the same booking.

Why devotees book it

  • Honouring a departed mother or father on the tithi of their passing, each year
  • A prayer for the peace of the departed and, in faith, for their moksha, or liberation
  • A traditional remedy for pitru dosha, offered as an act of care towards the ancestors
  • Keeping the family's duty to its ancestors, even when you live far from home or cannot travel

When to book

The shraddha is held each year on the tithi of passing, which follows the lunar calendar. Mahalaya Paksha, the fortnight set aside for the ancestors, and Amavasya, the new-moon day, are also traditional for remembering them. After booking, the date of the coming tithi and its muhurtham are worked out with you on WhatsApp.
