About Pocket Temples & Charan Paduka
A pocket temple is a miniature shrine — small enough for a wallet, a car dashboard, a desk drawer or a travel bag — usually holding a deity image or a pair of charan paduka, the symbolic footwear of a guru or deity. It is bought by people who travel, work long shifts away from home, or simply want their ishta devta with them outside the mandir.
What to look at
- Format: a folding or boxed pocket temple protects the image; open charan paduka are meant to be placed rather than carried loose.
- Size: wallet-sized pieces travel best; slightly larger ones suit a car dashboard or an office drawer.
- Material: brass and metal survive being carried; resin and printed pieces are lighter but wear faster.
- Deity: choose your ishta devta — the point of a pocket temple is personal, not decorative.
