Talk to Divine Hindu ↗Hanuman Jayanti marks the birth of Lord Hanuman, honoured for devotion, strength and service to Lord Rama. This page covers the puja at home and helps you choose Hanuman idols, Tulsi necklaces and gada pendants.
Lord Hanuman is regarded in Hindu tradition as the embodiment of devotion, strength and selfless service. His story is told in the Ramayana, where he serves Lord Rama and Mata Sita with complete faith.
He is also known as Anjaneya, the son of Anjana, and as Maruti and Bajrangbali. Tuesdays and Saturdays are the days many devotees set aside for his worship.
Chaitra, Kannada and Tamil observances follow different regional calendars. Many families in northern India keep Hanuman Jayanti in the month of Chaitra, while Karnataka and Tamil Nadu follow their own dates.
The date for each tradition is shown at the top of this page. Choose the one your household or temple follows, rather than treating one regional date as the same for everyone.
The puja vidhi differs from family to family, so follow your own tradition or your priest's guidance. For the Hanuman Jayanti puja samagri, gather a lamp, flowers, sindoor, a sweet and a copy of the Hanuman Chalisa. A simple home puja often follows this order:
A common Hanuman Jayanti mantra is Om Hanumate Namah. Many devotees also recite the Hanuman Chalisa, and those who follow Lord Rama chant Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram.
In the south, the same worship is often called Anjaneya puja. Learn any longer Hanuman mantra or Anjaneya mantra from a family elder, priest or guru, and chant it as they teach.
Start with Sacred God Idols for idols and Spiritual Jewellery for pendants. For a Tulsi necklace, you can also look at Spiritual Necklace and Jaap Mala.
Compare the idol size, necklace length and material before you add an item to your cart. If you plan to wear a mala every day, check the bead size, length and care note.
