Why Srirangapatna
Srirangapatna is an island town on the Kaveri in Mandya district, Karnataka, home to the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple — Adi Ranga, the first of the five Pancharanga kshetras on the Kaveri. It is one of South India’s best-known places for ancestral rites.
Families perform tarpan, pinda pradana, shraddha and Narayana Bali on the Kaveri banks here — at the Sangama, where the two arms of the Kaveri rejoin and the Lokapavani flows in (known locally as the Triveni Sangama), at the Paschima Vahini ghat and at Gosai Ghat. On Mahalaya Amavasya thousands of people offer tarpan here.
Your puja is performed by our pandit on these banks, as the vidhi and the day require.
About this puja
In the Karnataka tradition, when a person passes away during Dhanishta panchaka — the period of the five nakshatras from the second half of Dhanishta to Revati — or on a tripada nakshatra, a special shanti is performed for the family. Srirangapatna is one of the places where these pitru kriyas are traditionally done.
