What families keep for Diwali puja

On Diwali evening, many families worship Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh with diyas, incense and a puja thali. Some also set up a kalash. The exact items and order of the puja vary by family and region.

That is why this page is a shopping selection rather than a prescribed ritual checklist. If you follow a family priest or a guide, use their list and pick what is missing from this collection.

How to choose idols, thali sets and diyas

1. Check an idol's material and dimensions before you order.
2. For a thali set, read the pieces included in the set.
3. For a diya or lamp, read the fuel or power needs and what is included.
4. For incense, check the pack quantity and fragrance on the listing.

Lighting a diya and using incense safely

An oil lamp needs a stable surface and attention while it is lit. Keep it away from curtains, decorations and children, and never leave it unattended.

Place incense in a holder such as a dhoop daan and keep it away from anything that burns. Let the ash cool before you clear it. Read the listing for the fuel and set-up a lamp needs before you light it.

Care and everyday use after the festival

Many of these items stay in use after Diwali. Wipe brass and wood items with a soft dry cloth after use, and keep them in a dry place. Store incense packs closed and away from damp. Check each product page for any care note.
