The word Pongal means to boil over. The overflowing pot is a sign of abundance in the family's celebration, and the first portion is offered to Surya in thanks. The four days are Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal.
Makar Sankranti is observed across India when the Sun enters Makara (Capricorn) and its northward course, Uttarayana, begins. It has different names in different regions, and families follow their own customs.
Choose lamps and devotional objects by their stated size and material. Product pages list the dimensions, so measure the shelf or corner where the lamp will stand before you decide.
A brass thali holds the lamp, flowers and offerings during aarti. Check the diameter and the care note on the page. Keep puja items separate from cooking vessels. Wipe the thali after each use, following its care note.
Many families exchange small gifts at Pongal. A lamp, a devotional idol or a mala can be a lasting choice for a relative's puja room. Read the stated size and material before you choose.
For pongal gift ideas, think of the recipient's space and routine. A compact idol suits a shelf, while a mala suits someone who does daily japa. You can browse Sacred God Idols and Jaap Mala for options.
For pongal decoration items, families often use kolam designs, sugarcane, flowers and lamps. This page covers the lamp and devotional pieces. Arrange the other decoration items locally.
If you want a pongal combo, add the lamp, thali and idol you need separately. Check each product page for what comes with that item. Read the size and material of each lamp before adding it, so the pieces sit well together on your puja shelf.
