Meaning and tradition
In Hindu tradition, Vishnu is the Preserver of the universe and one of the Trimurti. Devotees keep a Vishnu murti for daily worship, Ekadashi vrats and Satyanarayan puja. It is also given as a gift at a griha pravesh (housewarming). Brass has long been used for murtis because it holds fine detail.
