A 108-bead mala is the traditional count for a round of japa, the repeated chanting of a mantra. A 54-bead strand is half of that count.
Karungali (ebony) malas are used in devotional practice in southern India. The bracelet is traditionally worn on the right wrist.

Each piece is sized for a different job. The 14-inch 108-bead strand stays with your asana for counted japa.
The 54-bead silver-capped mala is the one to wear at the neck. The 6 mm bracelet, with the finest beads in the set, is traditionally worn on the right wrist.
All three can be worn separately. Slip the bracelet off before washing your hands, since neither ebony nor silver capping likes repeated soaking.
