Use a holder that catches the falling ash, stand it on a heatproof surface clear of cloth and paper, and close the pack between uses so the herbal aroma keeps its strength.

Using your piece
Burn a stick in a suitable incense holder on a heat-resistant surface, with ventilation and space for falling ash. Keep burning incense away from children, pets, curtains and other flammable materials.
Care and storage
Store unlit sticks dry and away from heat. Never leave burning incense unattended, and make sure it is fully extinguished before you leave the area.

Traditionally, odd numbers, 1, 3, 5, or 11 are considered auspicious. One stick for daily puja, three for special occasions, and eleven for major rituals or festivals is a common practice.
Some people use fragrances such as sandalwood or jasmine during meditation or devotional practice. This is a personal preference, not a promise of deeper meditation or calm. Use incense only where its smoke is acceptable and follow the product's ventilation and burning directions.
