Why Srirangapatna
Srirangapatna is an island town on the Kaveri in Mandya district, Karnataka, home to the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple — Adi Ranga, the first of the five Pancharanga kshetras on the Kaveri. It is one of South India’s best-known places for ancestral rites.
Families perform tarpan, pinda pradana, shraddha and Narayana Bali on the Kaveri banks here — at the Sangama, where the two arms of the Kaveri rejoin and the Lokapavani flows in (known locally as the Triveni Sangama), at the Paschima Vahini ghat and at Gosai Ghat. On Mahalaya Amavasya thousands of people offer tarpan here.

Tula Sankramana — the day the Sun enters Tula, on Saturday 17 October 2026 — is the Kaveri’s special day. At Talakaveri the river’s source is worshipped as Teerthodbhava, and along the Kaveri devotees bathe and offer puja to Kaveri Amma.

Each date closes at 4 PM (IST), the day before the puja date, so the pandit can prepare. After that the date is removed from the list.
