Rule of thumb: perform the shraddha on the tithi on which the person passed away. If the tithi is not known, choose Sarva Pitru Amavasya, Saturday 10 October. About this puja
Sarva Pitru Amavasya, also called Mahalaya Amavasya, falls on Saturday 10 October 2026 and is the one day on which shraddha may be offered to all ancestors together — those whose death tithi is known and those whose is not, the father's side and the mother's. Rule of thumb: perform the shraddha on the tithi (lunar day) on which the person passed away. If the tithi is not known, choose Sarva Pitru Amavasya, Saturday 10 October 2026. The pandits fix the exact muhurat on the day; on 26 September the lunar eclipse moves tarpan to after moksha-kaal.

What is Sarva Pitru Amavasya and why is it called Mahalaya?
It is the new-moon day that closes Pitru Paksha — in 2026, Saturday 10 October. Shraddha offered on this day reaches all ancestors together, which is why it is also called Mahalaya (“the great abode”) Amavasya. It is the day for ancestors whose tithi is unknown, for the maternal lineage, and for anyone who missed their tithi shraddha.
How much does the Sarva Pitru Amavasya puja cost?
₹751 for one pitr, ₹1,251 for two pitrs and ₹2,501 for a family package of four pitrs. The price is the same whether you choose Gaya or Kashi, and includes dakshina and samagri.
Gaya or Kashi — which should I choose for Mahalaya Amavasya?
Gaya if you want pind daan at Vishnupad, the tirtha associated with moksha of the ancestors. Kashi if you prefer tarpan and pind daan at the Ganga ghats. Both are performed by our own pandits on the same day with the same vidhi.
Can daughters perform Sarva Pitru Amavasya shraddha for their parents?
Yes. Any family member can be the karta (the person offering the puja) — sons, daughters, spouses or grandchildren. The pandits take the sankalp in the karta's name and gotra; write “Kashyap” if the gotra is not known.
How will I know the puja was done in my name?
Your name, gotra and each ancestor's name are spoken aloud in the sankalp, and the puja is recorded. The video reaches you on WhatsApp within 3–4 days; prasad and holy water follow by courier in 8–10 days.
Can I book on 10 October itself?
Bookings close at 6 PM on Friday 9 October so the pandits can prepare the sankalp list. Same-day requests are taken on WhatsApp only, subject to availability.
